Glimpsing A Rainbow

I watched from the window
as you climbed and played
talking to the wind and sun
and chasing away the rain
I laughed with all my heart
as you moved to let the dog slide
down the slide of your swing set
I just couldn't believe my eyes
How you taught that dog to do it
and how it ran to climb those steps
back down the slide, the more you smile
made me wish I'd had a video cam
It's moments like this I live for
to see the way you love everything in life
since the doctors said you were autistic
and you'd never live a normal life
It makes me wonder what they know
although rough times shatter many days
sometimes I think perhaps they're wrong
and you'll be just fine someday
But one thing I know for sure
I was blessed the day you were born
for the angels live inside your soul
and you light life in ways I've never known
Play on my darling child
and I shall watch and stand in awe
as you talk to the winds and the sun
spreading your magic throughout the world
