There's No Light Here

I borrowed your smiles, held on til them til they flickered and faded
Until the smoke that remains fill the empty space
between now and the never been.

Between obvious and oblivious are the patters that run through
To pathways that we will never take
Only to remain in the suspension of never will.

An empty bottle, only filled to be cracked once again
Small slivers of the hope that i've bottled
Spill out, scathed and turgid it bled.

Your skin is the covered in frost of the icebergs you lay,
the ones who don't love, don't bring you light,
they slowly drain your light away.

I am a keepsake suspended in wax to wither
under a thousand suns that burn that much brighter
than a sky that you would never give me.

Extinguished what fires remain in this empty frame
A flame burns with needing, for grasping its heat, so austere,
it burns until I am dead inside.
You come back the wounded soldier looking for fire,

but there's no light here.

Author notes

Option 1:Write me about unrequited love, about someone who never knew, maybe about someone you never knew. Or, if you really want something out there, write about being the person who turned the other one down or being the person who didn’t find out until they’d already moved on.

That is very well written. I like your stanza breaks. I like your use of imagery. Good luck. Thanks for entering.
