This bright red thing.
It sticks out,
Sharp and smooth
Ready to penetrate anything it touches.
It jabs your finger
And draws blood unexpectedly.
You have to be careful
Not to let it catch you off guard.
I let it hurt me.
Not just one time, either.
I could hardly believe
Just how much it stabs you.
But now I speak metaphorically.
It cut me and I didn't expect it.
When I was given this rose,
I didn't see the thorns.
At first the rose was red,
But as I grew to love him
It slowly turned to darker and darker shades.
It finally turned black that day.
I didn't see it coming,
And it dug in quite deeply.
I'm still hurting even now.
That was long ago.
I'm slowly trying to pull it out,
But that only seems to hurt me more.
So for now I've stopped,
And maybe one day I'll receive the courage.
I just can't let him go right now,
It hurts me so much more
To even think of living without him
As it hurts to even think of pulling this thorn out.
Love is a dangerous thing,
And the rose that you are given
Slowly hurts you as you grab it.
Sometimes it stings, sometimes it stabs.
So whenever you feel like taking that rose,
Be careful and rethink it.
Will it turn black, or die?
Will those thorns hurt you, as they did me?

When I thought of this, I immediately thought of a black rose and it's thorns. I looked up some pictures and this is of thorns in a background of darkness. I thought it went well with the title prompt. hope you like it!

DUDE! This is awesome! I loved how you used the metaphor of a dying rose to symbolize how your relationship with him was! Great job and best of luck in the contest!

When I was given this rose,
I didn't see the thorns. favorite line i think you should maybe stray away from it being about a boy i mean the idea of a thorn can be so much. -
This was my favorite title
Good choice!
I love all the metaphors throughout the peice. I love the lines
I'm slowly trying to pull it out
But that only seems to hurt me more
How true that is.
Great job and good luck in my contest!
Love the background by the way
