These shadows enfold me, uninvited memories of what we were;
grasping, pulling me under, into it's quicksilver blur.
You had me and you let go, and I silently walked away,
and ever since, my heart's been drowning in the words I want to say.
I'm drowning in the wishes, hopes, and dreams of yesterday,
and nothing can console me now-I know I'm not okay.
You were the wish upon my star that burned away too fast,
and all along the starshine in my eyes made me believe we'd last.
You're holding me, distracting me, taking my life away;
I'm stumbling upon the thoughts turned into words I could never say.
Broken, empty, lifeless, this heart cries out into the night;
why am I still in so much pain if losing you was right?
And I hate you, but still I trudge on through stark emptiness,
for only in your eyes will I find those feelings that I miss.
A self-sacrificing, my heart tied and dried up, on display,
the promises broken and love undone, yet in my heart you stay.
