Heart, Hand, Soul

I gave you my heart

for you are all

All I thought I'd need.

 

You took my hand and

led me away

Away from my imagined pain

 

You took my soul

will you take my life?

Life, not meant for you?

 

I see now my flaw

in putting my trust in you

You stole my heart

Crushed my hand and

Ripped my soul away

    Very often author’s notes become fixed in a reader’s mind as part of the poem. I wonder as I read this if a sermon’s exhortation to trust the Lord with one’s heart, hand and soul brought to mind the betrayal of such trust in a more temporal relationship.
    This becomes a cautionary tale. We are reminded emotional investments in human relationships have no guarantee of return in love, joy or peace.

      Thank you for the comment. It was odd, but a song we sang mentioned taking a hand, and offering a heart... And the words got stuck in my mind... And this was the result.

    It is hard for all of us to deal with betrayal and unrequited love. The pain is sometimes overwhelming but if we are steadfast and understand that there is one out there for all of us we can persevere. An excellent poem, filled with emotion. This is indeed a cleand and simple poem. I wish you the best in the contest.

    This is deep and meaningful. I can relate to this intensity deeply. it was just the sort of poem that i needed to understand what is happening with my life at the moment. This same thing is happening with me.. inside... Friends, family, enemies... no one is their to keep my words there own. Great write and fantastic expression.
