~ These things are sent to try us ~

My Mother always said "These things are sent to try us"
When I was so much younger I did not understand
What did she mean by these words? I didn't really fuss
Now that I'm so much older I feel her guiding hand

Many things have come my way I found it hard to cope
Dreams shattered, relationships ended, abused and used
Became a Mother to troubled child...needed hope
Battered, degraded and bruised at his hand was abused

With many things I've dealt but somehow I came through it
Lost ability to work, depression and much more
Thinking back to what Mum said...the pieces seem to fit
I'm proud that she's my Mum...her words I didn't ignore

Yes, these few words certainly are not taken into account until we are old enough to see the wisdom behind them. Each generation learns this lesson, and pass it on. I myself saw the same. A wonderful poem with a great deal of sentiment involved. The flow and rhythm perfect, each verse leading smoothly to the next. Good luck

The old saying 'Mother Knows best" is sometimes proven to be true. Mothers have been there before us and experience is a great teacher. A great tribute to all Mums everywhere.Well done and good luck in the contest.

This one is really cute. I can also remember many of the saying my Mom and Grandmother always said to me. And of course there is always the dreaded "Mother's Curse". ..Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

My father's favorite yell was "You're going to die in bed!" if we didn't get right up in the morning... I always thought at the time that that's where I'd prefer to die -- now I realize he meant we needed to get up and DO something with our day -- sometimes the real meanings of our elders' advice takes a long time to come through. I am glad your mother's advice gave you something to hold onto, and that you are victorious enough to DO something and to write so well! I can't say reading this made me happy, but I am glad I did. Do keep writing!

A profound message within this composition--It is tinged with a bit of understandable sorrow and despair, but concludes with the uplifting thoughts of comprehension and appreciation.
Very well Written & Flawless flow of the unforced rhyming verse.
