When The One You Love is Ill

Missing image
Nothing is the same
when the one you love is ill.
You rush to get things done..
it seems you're standing still.

You do the best you can
to meet your loved one's needs.
Most days there's no reward
for doing such good deeds.

You cook her favorite food,
but she can't keep it down.
You long to see a smile
replace her painful frown.

My thoughts are with you, Hugh,
I know that you are strong.
Wish there was something I could do
to help when things go wrong.

You both are in my prayers,
the online candle's burning.
For your health and comfort,
my heart's forever yearning.

GOD BLESS YOU!

♥ ♥

Congratulations on the gold, and like usual it's time for my suggestions.

I think we poets (and we all are, look at me, an artist if I ever saw one!) don't write enough about mildew.

This one touches alittle bit too close to home for me in my situation. Really felt the words in these phrases. Thanks for the reminder, sometimes we need to remember reality so that we can continue surviving.

    Hi Maureen,
A lovely poem you have written, I hope they operate on Edna's ankle soon so that she can walk again and that will ease the strain off Hugh who certainly needs our prayers as well. Beautiful dear Maureen.

The online candle...you put it so well. It's very gratifying to know that so many people send positive thoughts from different places of the world even when they have never met.
Your poem is very beautiful, and what a great background!
Hugh and Edna make a beautiful couple, that photo is lovely.

My dear sweet Soul/Sister. Your message to Edna and Hugh is fantastic and very true in what you say as you have been there just as I have with Bob. I remember taking that picture the first night Sharon and I arrived in Christchurch, it was at the Thai restaurant called Kaningas and the meal was wonderful.
You have such a wonderful caring heart my sweet.Love you dearly.

Oh, Maureen, you captured the mood so well,
the "standing still" for one can hardly keep up.

    A beautifully expressed tribute.

    Well done Maureen!

Your empathy for Hugh comes through clearly, and also the anxiety of everyone whose beloved falls ill. This is a beautiful poem, thank you for your good wishes and for placing it here for the group.

And God bless you. This is a wonderful poem in honor of the not only Edna but Hugh too. And thank you for eliciting the response that you did from Hugh for now I know a bit more about what happened.

    Dear, dear Maureen,

I knew I could rely on you and Joan to be the first
to wish my Edna health and help me see her through the worst.
I know that every line above is most sincerely meant
and I love you for your emails, prayers and sweet encouragement.

Our doctor came and took away the pills that they'd prescribed
at the hospital, which made her throw up all that she imbibed.
It seems to me that all these drugs they give is pretty thick
coz he says the side effects were bound to leave her feeling sick.

But anyway she's held her dinner down of chicken stew
and, for her ankle, she can now keep down painkillers too
but in the meantime, to be safe, I'm keeping her in bed
and trying to find some books that she has not already read.

I'm printing out your poem which I will stand upon the shelf
and I think you're bloody wonderful, 'coz you're not well yourself!

Thanks for your beautiful and well-written poem. Very best of luck in the voting, applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)
