You behold the upright,
clear them a path;
they in awe honor You,
You keep them from all wrath.
They call on You, with bended knee,
seek You all their days;
in humbleness they let You guide,
You care for them always.
Though they may stumble on their own,
they count on You to bring them home;
a Father dear to all who fear,
You tend Your flock and draw them near.
Tall in stature, brave in heart,
they look to You in what they start;
never dismayed, though battle worn,
You’re the Victor, the fight You’ve won!
You behold the upright,
clear them a path;
they in awe honor You,
You keep them from all wrath.

Author notes
This is rhyme, does that need a poetic definition?
I see the words 'Upright Spirit' & immediately think Biblical!
I'm including scripture of course!
Ps 11:7 For the righteous Yah loveth righteousness; His countenance doth behold the upright.
Ge 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with Elohim. {perfect: or, upright }
Pr 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Yah: but the prayer of the upright is His delight.
Pr 16:17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
Isa 26:7 The way of the just is uprightness: Thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.
Hab 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Sorry, I'm being very prosaic here. I could I suppose with time [if I had it] speak in magnified metaphor: Shinning towers of marble endure, they who stand firm will always be sure; fiery gold beaten fine, will last through the hardest time! I'm done in for the day & am on my way....

Very lovely imagery. Excellent "though they...stumble on their own, they count on You to bring them home." Also excellent, "a Father dear to all who fear, You tend Your flock and draw them near." Brings to mind both 'tender of flocks' and 'tender of heart' and then 'tender of souls'. Indeed, those who "look to You...[are] never dismayed, though battle worn." Well rhymed.
Thank you for your entry!

The rhyme is fine
Sentiment sublime
But this time
I find
uneasy mind
You've missed a point
Universal truth
You say no wrath
will cross the path...
And when it does
Are you not loved?
Leaders, heros
(Not the zeros)
Promised large and long
Went to prison, hunted
Starved, firey furnaced,
(Nailed to a cross?)
Are we loved only when
Our way is guarded?
For protection
Do we serve?
Or can we trust he
sees the hiway
In a higher way...

Ah....but....
I'm speaking of the Second death here. Keeping believers who follow The Christ from the finally wrath to come [eternal extinction] is what our Advocate does! Thanks for reading & commenting! I think if you 'clean up' your comment a bit & rephrase a little you'll have an outstanding poem here!
Blessings friend!

A poem of worship.
I like this poem with its unusual rhyme pattern. The metre is good. Most of all I like the message and it is a truly religious inspiration to an 'upright spirit.'

Thanks for the kind words!
I guess an Aussie from down under knows what it is to be upright!
I like your Icon! Are you also a fisher of men?
