we skipped backwards-
self convinced joy
had us smiling like
little girls and
little boys
we spent the day
tripping on our own feet
dancing to our own beats
the music skips
its a different song
when you roll out of bed
to start the day off
wrong
pushed on the swings
we carry our own weight
and with each exhale
we defy our fate
never land
leads to growing up
and throwing up
and showing up
fashionably late
and at this rate
we'll move on
before we have time
to learn to the words
to each song
necks twisting
necks snapping
hard to notice
when your laughing
so hard
you're blinded by
the opportunities you let
pass you by
and escalators shuffle
under your feet
each minute is on repeat
stuck in a rut
you don't know what
led you to this place
but the fear
you to have to face
is what keeps you here
the inevitable consequence
of a part of the world
that makes less sense-
and
when you finally
want quit
you don't know how
so you just take
another
hit
Author notes
8. I got high as a kite on Friday night...
eventually, we all have
to give in to quitting something..

This was cute and the ending was good. Your rhyming was actually good and you get mad when you rhyme! I don't know why. Ha nice write, Jane
