Her burnished auburn locks rend my heart asunder
and my eyes fill with bitter scalding blinding tears.
She took her kids and her car leaving me to wonder
if she's gone for good or just teasing my fears.
She's done this before, you know, and she's hurt
me deeply. I find it hard to hold my growing anger
"cause I know she can always find a way to flirt;
to draw a man in and make him forget her danger!
She returns and after we have made quick wordless love,
she informs me she was just back for sex and furniture;
that she has found another place located just above
her old boyfriends plumbing shop. How do I endure?
The house is so empty I find myself missing her kids.
Sean's nasty temper; Rachel's girlish giggles,
Jason's constant good humor and Adam's childish bids
for attention; even his incessant lap sitting wiggles.
In my mind, I conclude I'm far far better off now.
My heart disagrees and is throbbing with hurt.
I find the pain of separation is the same anyhow;
whether she leaves in a Pinto or is under the dirt.
Over time the heart pain diminishes and hope
rears her lovely head. You find a replacement
to cuddle your aching head. She gives you rope
with which to tie yourself and to truly repent.
Now you have your brunette, no red head will do.
You know excitement and closeness are better
experienced in lighter doses. You'll have few
heartaches if you get no new deadly letter.
You know, the one that opens old emotional wounds
and causes you to wonder what you could have done.
The only way to get over those old heart wounds
is to replace your lost lover with a better one!

You see it's women like this that give all the rest of us a bad name. On the other hand I see in your notes that you've been married at least 4 timesso your track record might not be the best either. ( I'm not making a judgement on your charactor, just an observation. So don't take this to heart and dislike me for making it.)
You did a great job with this piece, and I thank you for entering it in my contest.
