As I Am...

take me
as I am

damaged and tainted
by life's little nuances

each scar sliced
into my soul
hold their own story
never yet told

pure beauty
bred by deformity
lives within,
is part of me

so take me
simply as I've become
for I will not change,

nor arrange
to exchange
pain's
I have beared

to end up numb

the hurt
held lesson's
on experience's exam

at the school
of hard knocks
with all it's scams and slams

struggled and studied,
sink or swim-
so
off I swam,

weathered
and withered
from a long
journey traveled

so,
if you
take me,

know

that you
take me

as I am...

This is a great piece. One of many from your ever-growing collection.
    "pure beauty bred
    by deformity
    lives within,
    is part of me
so take me" - powerfully worded with content, not sorrow.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this. G'luck & thanks for sharing

    Awesome Sentiments, Poet!

True to yourself, as in the old quote: "To thine own self be true..." Thank you for sharing your heart-felt poem with all of us!! I felt every bittersweet word. And I'm wishing the best of luck to you in the contests!!! Peace, Cyn

Very strong words and phrases. I really feel the sense of hopelessness and despondency in this piece. Great work -- keep writing !
