Brahman, God, Allah,
Uni-Verse, Goddess, Tao...
nameless, formeless, gender free...
All names and shapes, here and Now
When you look it will not be found,
when you see you'll join the play.
Just remember all that is perceived
is but a finger pointing the Way.
Uni-Verse, Goddess, Tao...
nameless, formeless, gender free...
All names and shapes, here and Now
When you look it will not be found,
when you see you'll join the play.
Just remember all that is perceived
is but a finger pointing the Way.
Author notes
"There is only One,
and there is nothing outside Him.
He is. He is and He is not;
and neither is He, nor is He not.
He is with form - all forms are His form,
all names are His name -
He is without form,
and He is beyond form and no-form."

"neither is He, nor is He not" Incorporeal presence so far beyond the mortal perceptions, but I love the glimmers of guidance and all-knowing in these seemingly paradoxical verses.

this is both luminous and witty ...
your pointer points at the subtle pitfall of mind attaching itself on the concept of "god as formless" ... if we think : "that's it !" - it isn't ...
thank you,
maa

What????
Thanks for the honor of bronze and the feedback of your undesrstanding of my quick response to the prompt.
"...and He is beyond form and no-form."
Perhaps that is what I responded most to, that What? (implying either form or formlessness) Is? (implying Being or non-Being) stand beyond, beneath, above... any human thought, perception, expression... and we can be but the joyous play of Divine Awareness (yet another human concept) reflected in/as our consciousness.
Thanks as always for the opportunity to try to see ever deeper into the sweet song of the Divine.
Shine ever brightly,
Rahad

good one!
Just because we can name it, doesn't mean we know what it is. I love the insight of the second stanza, you have done your job of pointing for us.
Best of luck in the contest!

Thanks Margaret. I'm glad you got the point(er). Sometimes we get so caught up in the artwork of the sign post that we forget to continue the journey.
Walk on, free spirit!

This poem reminds me of a Zen story, where the student asked "What is Zen?" and his teacher pointed to the moon. The student did not understand it until he lost his own finger.
Your rhymes are sensible, I enjoyed this.

I'm glad you liked this , Sandal. I had a early exposure to zen which was a basis for my lifelong journey in Truth. Here's hoping we all get past the finger... and the moon... to know the Light in both.
Peace and blessings,
Rahad
