Shopping List (Working Title)

I  need eggs.
I need apples and orange juice
And pumpernickel bread.
Bananas and Potatoes and
Guava and
Apricots, his favorite.
Olives and tortillas and
English muffins, and cereal.
A rotisserie chicken and Chips and
Italian dressing,
On the side.
I need lemons and powdered sugar, and
Peaches and cottage cheese.
I need that Black Cherry lipstick,
For my date tonight, and
a perfect nose, to boost my confidence.
Milkshakes on Saturdays, and a game of JELL-O on
Long family drives.
I need three brothers, always.
I need the strong hand of my mother and the affection
Of a father.
I need things I wish I had.
I need a ticket to the other side of the country,
and I need ice water on the bedside table.
I need a push on the swings and I need to stop changing my mind.
I need to meet the little girl who might bite her tongue when
she concentrates too hard, or never could hold her pencil
The correct way, whose eyes might turn green when she spends
All day in the sun.
Like I do, like I never could, like mine do.
I need the truth. Most days.
I need lies sometimes, too, but for very specific sometimes.
I need to know I am a different from the day before and
I need the heater turned on, on Christmas morning.
I need solitude and encouragement and Madlibs and
I need someone to play with my hair and a trip to Africa
and funny pictures.
I need inside jokes and memories and laundry rooms and
closure and
I need to communicate and to start looking into the future,
Instead of the past. I need reassurance.
All the time.
I need clichés and romantic comedies and fairytales and
arch support and yearly exams and Halloween and insecurities and
peanut butter on a spoon.
I need to not take myself seriously and worn out shoes,
and beaches at night and turning the volume
all the way up.
I need to sing along and dream and look into your eyes
When I talk to you.
I need kites.
I need my dog.
I need to move on.
I need a push on the swings and
I need to stop changing my mind.
