My father told me once, "Allan, the hardest thing is being able to tell the difference between when someone is smarter than you and when they are speaking nonsense, because they both sound the same to you. I have always figured the best thing to do is to assume anyone speaking in such a manner to be brilliant. If they aren't, it will become clear soon enough. If they are, we will become elevated by learning to understand them or we will just marvel in wonder as we watch them successfully do and think what is impossible for us."
I replied: "Tantamount to ascertainment of barometric inequalities, this cerebral cortex shall furthermore diagnose the deportmant obscuring one's reverberance through calibrating an imaginary notational control appendage in a favorable proximity and consequently turn adroitly cognizant of the commission of a campaign stimulating sympathetic or parasympathetic interpolations in differential."
"Nice try." he said. "But I already know you're an idiot."
Author notes
A true story.
In case anyone wonders what I said, it goes like this:
Like a barometer, my mind will determine someone's intelligence by making a note of what I think of someone, like positioning the setting hand in a place giving them the benefit of the doubt, then pay close attention to whether my opinion of their thoughts and actions goes up or down.

The only indication I have ever found more than averagely reliable, is that he who uses big words is rarely the one with the deeper understanding. Unfortunately, I really love those long words
You could perhaps have tried stentorophony, he may not have seen through that so fast

Naw, it's got phony right in it. He'd have seen through that.

a parable of perspicaciousness. Fathers always know when we are dancing on the head of a pin. It is not that it is impossible but they are so sure we could find better ways to spend our time. Angels are only viable when you are in the market.
Might enjoy this along the same lines.

You are so funny.
I do not care how brilliant a person is. Awareness is important. I am often rather "in my own dimension" -- does that make me stupid?
You write such perfect parables. You are a born story teller.

Always Myra
