Virtuoso

Missing image

I remember the insight of your spirit
making radical departures in harmony

seemingly deaf
to softly spoken stirrings
ranging
in temper and melodious vigor

with dimness puddling
against yellowing compositions
turned musty and brittle

as the octaves
of a tormented soul
dissipate uselessly
in a wooden casing

causing Euterpe herself
to openly weep

Image Prompt: Music_Should_be_so_Beautiful_by_Windcharmer

Euterpe- Greek muse of music
Virtuoso- A musician with masterly ability, technique, or personal style.

Franz Liszt (1811 – 1886) was an Austrian Hungarian composer and virtuoso pianist of the 19th century.
"I carry a deep sadness of the heart which must now and then break out in sound"

The picture made me think of a muse/inspiration in physical form who becomes sadden and damaged by the "fit" of an artistic soul squandering their aptitude.

ooooo... skimpily-clad faerie on the keyboard... reminds me that I should paint faces on (and name) each of my fingers (and two thumbs), so when I'm interviewed on TV (after becoming a noted composer) I can bring along my ten friends, and they can do the interview... and maybe star in a detective movie with the button monsters...

OK, lol now to get myself in a serious mood to read your piece here... (changing on a dime...)

but first I've just read your author's notes... artistic souls throwing fits... yes, happens... or, if they put all that they are into their creations, they become exhausted, or completely burned-out...

hey, I'm half Hungarian- maybe the perpetual 'sadness of the heart' is genetic... (and Liszt got really radical near the end) my humor is probably from my English side and the craziness from the Scotch-Irish...

this is another at large 'you' poem, and every likely reader will be wondering where he/she fits in... might as well reveal where I think I'd fit- I have spirit, don't know about insights, I definitely make departures in harmony musically... I may be a bit obtuse- accounting for the 'deaf' aspect... now I find the 'octaves of a tormented soul' creatively inspiring... like I should go jump on the keyboard right now... (can't, we're doing house-rearranging and it's not accessible at the moment... (frown)

I might experiment with 'openly' for 'overtly', rolls off the mental tongue better, and the line already ends with a consonant... maybe whip up a feminine (vowel) ending instead, so it ends on a resonant tone...

oh yes, the rest of your poem- is the 'deafness' due to the creative impasse in the lines below, or related to the existing condition in the lines above?

The 'wooden casing' makes me think of a violin case... but I see it could mean a casket or the creatively-stopped artist...

funny how, here on the Net, we can now 'know' an artist as the artist is still creating... and if the artist is loved, suffer with the artist... and if the artist stops, feel the agonizing void immediately...

sounds like an entertaining plan... and perhaps it is in the genes
awww... sorry to hear that you are unable to give in to the burst of inspiration, although I am glad it provoked such a feeling.
I like your "fit" in the scheme of things and your take in my words.
Wooden casing is a play on words so to speak, but also in reference to the wooden casings of an old piano... the relation in deafness I will let you decide

Your advice is well taken and truly appreciated
