Autmn

You painted
autumn horizons
on my soul

brilliant pinks
and rich oranges-
my life turned to technicolor
the moment you
arrived.

I fell for you like leaves
spinning downwards to
the ground, my heart
the empty tree,
naked and vulnerable...

but no one finds beauty
in mere bare bark,
it's overlooked and
hated.

After moments of my descent,
you raked me into the gutter
to be picked up by the garbage man,
the bitter taste of an overripe
goodbye on your lips,

it's times like these I wish
I was an evergreen

Author notes

Don't know if this is what you were looking for, autumn in a metaphorical aspect, but thanks anyway for the inspiration.

What a splendid collection of beautiful visuals are what you have scribed here poet. I love the feel of these words. Your poem reminds me of a day about two weeks ago when I went into my backyard and it was raining crimson, and magenta leaves.

    BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you for this entry in my challenge and please forgive my tardiness in commenting. I was so overwhelmed with the wondrous poems in this contest that I found it hard to comment on them all at the time of judging.

    EXQUISITE WORK!

Beautiful poem! I especially love the stanza: "but no one finds beauty
    in mere bare bark,
    it's overlooked and
    hated."

And, "it's times like these I wish
    I was an evergreen"

I thought it was wonderful. Flawless even!

Plus, you have the most amazing name ever. I want to steal it. Things are shaping up to be . . . okay, I'm done.
