Reciprocity

If hands were chameleons of consequence
and we were touched immediately
because of any choice and deed,
how the world might ended up spinning out of control
in so many oddities.

Politicians tongues falling out from all their lies,
lawyers would go to jail along with the crooks
they keep from punishment.
Drug pushers dying of overdoses,
the greedy rich would finally know the curse of poverty
over every time they stole by avarice’s ploy.
Media prophets struck with blindness
for ever false fact they shared.

Homeless would find doors open unexpectedly,
modesty might be given a due reward,
honesty sprinkled in the gold of honor,
sacrifice and love be allowed a rightful praise.

Competent employees given raises and promotions
instead of those who contrive to get ahead.
All of that just the grand cleansing parade of fate,
but within each heart would come their own change,
maybe every cell phone driver having wheels fall of their cars,
perhaps at last the instantaneous lightning
turning anyone’s secrets into an worthy aura of fame or pile of ashes.

Oh the possibilities are endless, the opportunities boundless,
but would we truly want to take the mystery out of guilt
and anonymous acts of kindness?

The question is whether we would be ready
to have our heroes take off their masks revealing monsters underneath
while those hated unjustly be discovered as angels?
