The bell rings, summoning your candy
basket, but you stop at the door
to appraise my costume like a house
and find it wanting: "Didn't you
wear that yesterday?" your eyes ask.
But don't you see, my face responds,
it's a mask I don daily, you need
only pull away the first layer
to find pieces never exposed to air.
Why create another for this festival of fear?
