All too often we use our words
As a knife toward one's back
Too late perceived as insincere
Until tears are shed at last
But the impact of unspoken words
Whether stored in mind or heart
It's what people fail to realize
How they can tear us apart
What once had been so wonderful
Now destroyed and turned to shreds
For one refused to speak his mind
Claimed "it's better left unsaid."
Where, in truth, if he had spoken up
He could have saved it in whole
But for fear of using words that hurt
He chose not to speak at all
'Tis shameful that the words that should
Not be spoken, too often are
And likewise the words never voiced
If said, could prevent many wars
So speak to me what's on your heart
Open up to me today
I'd rather be hurt by your words
Than that which you will not say
