The Forest ...

Come to the forest
experience with me,
The cool - the quiet
the strength of the trees.

Breathe into your soul
the fragrance of time,
Feel the past spirits
awake in your mind.

Feel part of the living
in hushed - pale tones,
Soft earth contouring
with layers of stone.

Like leaves still descending
to their final goal,
Find courage and patience
a world to behold!

Drink from still waters
gain insight anew,
Realize the source
relating to you.

Come to the forest
run free - find the time,
Green, cool and shady
will satisfy your mind ...

Many cultures have considered that a certain spirituality or at least wisdom resides in trees of forests and groves. Perhaps it is just the inherent tranquility in muted light and sound of the woods that allows the mind to relax and let thoughts move about and rearrange themselves so that truths unseen in the glare become apparent in the shade.

I like when my mind is a forest, unfortunately there are too many woodcutters who want to saw all the trees down and make my life miserable.

The poem is as contemplative as the mood it praises. Which makes it soothing to read, something I could use these days of migraines.
