Was it because flames of love,
are so hard to keep alive,
that only embers remain?
I look at you with eyes,
that once enticed you so easily,
Now look out upon only sadness,
and wonder why.
Was it familarity,
that weighed down passion,
and brought about discontent?
Time chips away at love,
subtly vanishes ever so slowly.
By harsh words and lies,
spoken from lips once longed for.
Reality faced, truth triumphant,
another sad ending.
No longer seems to matters why,
it just is.

A very thought provoking and true write. You have summed up the end of a relationship exactly how it seems to happen. Simply wonderful imagery in this.
You have certainly answered the prompt title brilliantly
All the best with this.

SO HEARTFELT!!!
One often wonders why when the one they care so much about do not show the same feelings back like they once did.
Those feelings are so painful and stay for such a long time.
