The Two Fires

There once was a bottle filled with a flame,
But the fire died when the cork came
and plugged the entrance.
The bottle sat, flames smothered,
nothing but hot coals remaining,
for over a year.
During this year another fire was built;
it burnt brightly around the bottle
and the flame within the bottle was not effected,
nor was the large fire outside.
One day Fate removed the cork
and the heated air of the fire around
rekindled the fire within.

There came to be two separate fires.

The fire within the bottle was contained
and it could not grow without leaving the bottle,
so it did, and the fires warred against each other
In the fireplace in which they dwelled.

The fire without won, of course,
being larger and already established,
but the little fire did not die;
it merged with the larger fire and became a part of it.
Now the two fires burn as one,
but the fire without overpowers the fire within.

It may not seem like much,
but the little fire is important too
because if it was removed from the flames
the world would be that much colder.

Can you figure it out, or do you think I was just rambling? I know it's not a great work, I just wanted to write something... I like it.

    I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

    Hmm

    I like this poem, I get the feeling there is a deeper meaning than just fire...

    Um, just a couple things line 3 'and plugged the entrance' I don't know I kind of fell its not needed, and takes away from the story telling...because where else would the cork go. I think like 6 also takes away from the story, if you could change what is now line 7...I don't really know, you are a great poet and writer, and I couldn't, and please don't think I would ever attempt to improve on your works; there were a few lines that just threw me off the feel of the story is all...

    I'm using the line numbers allpoetry adds.
