A Gift

A precious little boy
Sent to me from up above
A chance to learn
        About unconditional love
He’s a perfect angel
        The sparkle in my eye
When he’s up to mischief
        He’s the devil in disguise

He loves to play
        Everyday, all day long
He thinks he’s right
        That he’s never wrong
Staring off into space
        Daydreaming once again
All he wants in life
Is to be your best friend

He wears his heart
        Upon his shirt sleeve
He has good manners
        He always said please
When he wants a toy
        He’ll scream and shout
It breaks my heart
        When he starts to pout

I’ll give him the world
        Just to see him smile
Because he’s a gift
        He’s my son, my child

    I like it

This is really sweet, you can feel the love for the child come through, and I like that it's very real, it's not all about his being perfect, but it points out some of his human traits. I love the lines "when he wants a toy, he'll scream and shout, it breaks my heart, when he starts to pout" it's simple but any parent can relate to that feeling.

      Thank you

I've read a lot of poetry about children and they all seem to be perfect so when I wrote this one about my son I wanted it to show that he is human. That it's okay to be just who you are. Thanks for reading but most of all thanks for the sweet comment.

awww.this is so beautiful and put cheer and warm in my heart..the flow and rhyme in this is really strong. Sometimes overly personal poems aren't as strong because they are so personal, but you have managed to put your personal feelings and experience into a publishable and strong poem.

    AWWWWW!

Wow! This is so beautiful and touching. I totally understand this kind of love between a mother and her son. I have two myself. They are precious gifts for sure. This is written very well, and has tugged at my heartstrings. Thanks for the uplifting words here. Blessings, Patty

Oh..I just thought about the fact that this may be a father writing this. I know that bond is also very precious and strong between a father and a son. Sorry about that. Patty
