Loosing Sight

To many times we forget to thank others
other times people just claim it's their job
these people who do this are not special
no more than a teller at a bank counting money.

It doesn't matter that they risk their lives
to try and save another, human or not
It's just another making sure his job is done
just like the dry cleaner clerk who handles clothes.

But I disagree and I'm sure many others would too
these men who do rescue work in dangerous positions
do risk a lot, the least being harmed and disabled
not considering the families that depend upon them.

And yet here a mere animal has the knowledge
and compassion to know what has been rendered
and to show the respect and kindness deserved
by seeing man in need and coming to his rescue.

It may seem like just a kiss of kindness from the dog
but she understands in a way most humans have omited
that when in need you risk your all as he did for the dog
a reminder that mankind should slow down and do the same.
