Painful Pleasure

Missing image
I was given this option,
and I gave it a lot of thought.
Of what painful pleasure
truly was.

I sought out all the things,
I have lived through in my life.
And landed on one instance,
that seemed to be just right.

Painful pleasure is to give your love to the sick,
to think not of yourself and give kisses with your lips.
To let them hear your whispers upon their last days,
it' truly painful but a pleasure to help them find their way .

To understand through age in time,
the child returns with a different frame of mind.
Often they react to help just as a child,
this is what painful pleasure is all the while.

In your forgiveness and an understanding heart,
you take some of their pain away by being a part.
To give them a smile where pain often rules,
and to help them keep from hurting themselves
for within their mind it so duels.

To know if your love can withstand the times,
be that one who has learned painful pleasures along the line.
For we all shall get there for age is inherited you see,
and we will so pray for the one who shares painful pleasures with me .

Author notes

You have not yet known love until you look into your loved ones eyes when they lie on the edge of heaven for within their eyes so loving you for being there to see them through heavens gates you will truly see God looking back at you this day Painful pleasures I wouldnt want it any other way

This piece is beautiful and unexpected. It really makes you think and re-evaluate. Especially for me, I think, because I've battled depression and suicidal thoughts most of my life so this is a very contemplative poem for me. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful write.

It is for sure a pleasure to help those we love but I have known at least one who would have fought very hard not to have to accept the help we would have given. People choose to die in their different ways -- or maybe they don't really choose since it depends on personality.

Myself, I think I could accept some of this help and love but, when it got to a certain point, I might just want to be outa there!!

Painful pleasure -- that says so well. What a thoughtful piece you've given us. Thank you.
