To Her Majesty, Edna Regina Huguelotis (NON-ENTRY)

Your loyal subjects, here called "Huguenauties",
are saddened once again by Your ill-health,
when Queens and Kings, and Lords of Chamber-potties
must keep their smiles in tune, and flaunt their wealth.

Herewith, my wish for swift recuperation,
to rise victorious from Your bed of pain,
to quickly end this sad incarceration
and take Hugh to the library again.

(signed) Your servant,
MargaretG, Mistress of Weights, Measures and Metres

Author notes

If I had my way I'd make health catching instead of disease. ~Robert Ingersoll

The power of love to change bodies is legendary, built into folklore, common sense, and everyday experience. Love moves the flesh, it pushes matter around.... Throughout history, "tender loving care" has uniformly been recognized as a valuable element in healing. ~Larry Dossey

I love the humourous side you took on this. I know they have Lordsa of Pottie-Chmbers, but do they have Lords of Vomit Chambers too! LOL Sorry, had to squeeze that one in!

Wouldn't it be nice if 'health' were as catching as some disease..good luck in the contest..

Huguelotis, now that is a perfect name for the queen of the Huguenauties. Laughter always makes everything seem better, even when we are ill. The Lords of Chamber-potties is a good one, and of course better be the lords than the ladies

Dear Sweetpea, I thought I'd commented on your poem, but I see I haven't. Sorry sweetheart.
Hopefully the Doctors will operate on Edna's ankle soon so that she can walk again.
I enjoyed reading your poem and the bit of humor in it, especially about visits to the library, that's a must every Saturday as Edna is an avid reading and while they're there they have lunch in the little cafe that's there. Sharon & I used to look forward to the trip to library when we were there, the food is delicious, all home made.
    Love Joan

Dear Margaret, A lovely fun poem. The library they have there has a Cafe and everything is home cooked, so besides getting books everyone goes for a meal.

    Dear Margaret,
It is sad when our loved ones are ill, it's hard on both partners but it's amazing how one copes in a crisis.
A lovely poem for Edna and Hugh.

I too had to laugh at the chamber pottie
Just as long as I am not one doing the emptying of them
Remmember I am the gardner not the nurse at the castle
Too cute and best of luck in the contest
    Hugs
    Susan~

    Dear Margaret,

On Queen's behalf I thank you for your wishes
and I am thrilled to have my wife back now
because of all the piled-up dirty dishes
and the castle's full of spiderwebs somehow.

But as to wealth, I have to make confession.
The US Stock Exchange is just a racket
and since they instigated this recession
I think the queen and I have lost a packet.

Eventually I'm sure things will get better
but, meantime, can't afford to post a letter!

Thankyou for this contest, especially the thought for Edna who thanks all who think of her.

Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

It's very sad how the Royal coffers have been deprived in this latest financial fiasco. I hope that as summer advances your health and wealth will both improve!

Maybe I read a different poem?

Though I did smile at the "chamber-pottie" reference.

But mainly I just saw a friend wishing another good health, and knowing the right amount of levity to apply to a heartfelt piece. Which I shall try to copy in my entry, if not in talent, at least in how to apply the light strokes of humor to an honest poem.

Long-winded way of saying, "I think you did well."

Thank you Yem. It's not silly funny; a smile is as good as a laugh. I hope we will see your poem soon.

    I laughed nonstop!

You are by far one of the most funny poets I know! But then, you are thorough on all levels!

I am sure this remedy shall be quite effective.

    Thank you for the laugh.

Thank you sweetheart! Poor Edna, poor Hugh, she is ill, he is with her at the hospital. We hope she will have her system retuned in a few days, but in the meantime, it helps to laugh.
