Water Laughs

The wind may sing or moan
The sun may glare or beam
The leaves may dance or sleep

But water laughs

Cloudbursts chuckle, deluges pour
Brooklets giggle, rivers rush
Fountains gurgle, falls roar

Water always laughs

Zephyrs may chortle,
yet not while they weep
Lilies may smile
yet not while they dream

But water may shout or whisper
while she laughs

Chickadees chirp
Snow flutters
The earth slumbers

But

if you will lean your ear
near the cold, cold ice
and with your finger tap, tap, tap
on the surface of the pond
you will hear
softly

(gurgle)

water laughs

Author notes

Even in the cold or turbulent times, water always seems to have an underlying joy.

I like where you took this piece. Great imagery! I never thought about water laughing, but it sure does seem appropriate since it brings so much glee. Great write. Thank you for entering.

Yep, water does laugh-he baubles, he sloshes,he brings relief to a thristing soul and relief to a parched head-yes water brings her own kind of smiles and often it bubbles over into laughter. nicely done
