you flew
through clouds
that hung over
the Great Divide
became one
with winds
in the expanse
of vapors
soared over an
illustrious ocean
of lunar nights
witnessed
the celestial lover of Eos
died by the stroke
of Artemis with her arch
visited
tempest air on
the coldest of days
only to climb
back aboard
your journey
with purpose
never gave up
the migration
when you left
i heard
your last breath whisper
on the wings
of an Aviators Prayer
.
Author notes
The first thing I thought of when I saw the word Maverick was Top Gun. How Maverick in the movie was determined to go super sonic.
Anyway, getting to know you, I had to write something involved in flying, spirit, and strength. Hope I didn't disapoint you.
The Aviators Prayer:
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep
It’s own appointed limits keep
Oh hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.
Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the greatest spaces of the sky.
Be with them always in the air,
In darkening storms or sunlight fair
Oh hear us when we lift our prayer
For those in peril in the air.
