Saying Goodbye To The Yellow Brick Road.

The Wizard of Oz only gave to those seeking what they had all along.
And so he handed out a gift of laughter and mischief to my friend Charlie.
I have thought on death for a long time and wondered what my own would be like.
Now I know that saying goodbye to the Yellow Brick Road is only a formality at the end of life.
It is how you go out that counts, some leave this earth afraid, some do not want to leave and others face it with
courage and heart.
So I think that it is best to leave here with a smile and laughter on your lips.
That takes brains, heart and courage.
That is the hope of all who go down the road.

Author notes

My elderly friend Charlie Ellett died yesterday after suffering an anuerysm. He suffere the first seizure right after church. Charlie always teased me and picked at me. I hold onto the memory of his warm laughter and joy at life.

A contest entry

I have had my own health issues of late. So I understand this.

    A worthy eulogy

Keep the memory kiddo. I would read everything at once but you make me cry and right now there's no time for tears.
