Tree of Knowledge

Tree gnarled in pain
was giver of breath
but now;
gives in vain
For man held darkness too dear
and his face in the tree, appears

How to let these vines unfold
So man may know the light once more
This Tree of knowledge
knows that truth is LOVE
Whether from root succour or star-dust above

The seasons will come, storms, winds, shifting light
breathing feeling to the dead
'till  wood let's go of man
and man emerges from wood
as he claims his shadow once more
He will shed the skin he once wore

    Dear Isabella,
I want to say to you that I find you the most inspirational poetess on A.P. and this poem is proof of that. I also like the work of 'Godless but divine' albeit for different reasons.
For me this poem could be an anthem for those who are committed to saving the planet and ultimately themselves. I love your use of the tree as a metaphor for life and breath, but trees are also literally a source of life for this planet.
Through our hurt, pain, loss and abuse we may hold onto "darkness" thus not giving the Tree of Knowledge a chance to give breath or even to allow ourselves to breathe. I agree with you that unless we claim our shadow we can never know the truth that is "Love" and existentially Life!!
I read in wonder at your own Knowledge - it is inspiring. Thanks for being you and for sharing your vast creativity with us!!!!
    sincere and warm wishes,
    Liveddog.

    • your welcome :)

      thank you,
      best wishes,
      Isabella

    Vivid imagery...

It kind of brought me to a fantasy - like state... ya' know...where I could see a man emerging from inside a tree...

    Very nicely done!
    Keep penning
