You whispered:
"You are a crayon,
slipping carelessly in and out of the lines."
These converses are old,
worn, thread barren in places
But I still stomp through mud puddles
then, complain of cold feet.
Do you remember the day you bought them for me?
Shaking you head as you reworked the laces
through the holes and laughing as I squeezed them onto my feet.
"your feet are too big for such bright sneakers"
---
In the card for my 16th birthday
You wrote that you loved me like you loved your old blue high tops.
but you stopped wearing them last winter.
I've been wearing these shoes for two years,
Hoping that theres a bit of your love
left in these laces.
You sighed,
one of your long, exasperated sighs.
"You're like a marker that comes on too strong,
It stains all the pages beneath it."

Awww, Wow. I don't know what to say about this. It blows my mind. I think my favorite lines are "You're like a marker that comes on too strong,/ It stains all the pages beneath it." It's amazing. How I take such a beautiful picture and expecting a cleché version but you make it so sad. I love it.!
I wish you the best of luck in the contest.
