Did He Invent Greed?

His brother was sent to fight a war,
and god knows if that was to hedge
his intellect and trade horses
to guard the toxic portfolios
of the now belly-up financial behemoths.
He didn’t have cyclopean eyes
and lost his house, job, family,
and the faith of common man
who wouldn’t raise an eyebrow
in paying from their pockets
for a bleeding struggle in the name of god.
Did he invent capitalism, or the greed?

I really liked this poem and it reminded me of George Bush for some reason.. heh. The only thing I thought you could improve was to tell who the person you were speaking about/to were, because it would let the reader in on the relationship between speaker and listener a little bit more.

    Hmmmm ...

this reminds me, in some ways, of Donovan's song, Universal Soldier. I think you've pointed up some relevant points with this. The question I have, and I suspect most people would have, in reading this, is "who is 'he'?" There seems to be no hint of that and since the entire poem deals with the title question, it seems like it would help to know that.

Nice to see you still questioning and still writing.
