Lost and alone brought into a world unknown,
the little spider monkey sat in a cage not his home.
Afraid and lonely he looked my way,
and freedom was whispered upon the air that day.
Sold in a market for gain and uncareing of my plight ,
I thank God you came into my life .
You took me from the prison and showed me such love,
for this little spider monkey couldnt hold onto you tight enough.
Days passed and we became buddies for life,
I followed you everywhere never out of eyesight.
One day while running around came a really big dog with attack on his mind ,
and he was headed for me and as I turned we were eye to eye.
I turned his way with arms strethed out wide ,
I let out a screach and scared that big dog thats right.
He whirled on a dime and ran away,
then I jummped back into my owners arms that day.
Life as an animal can be the best it can be,
but people have to care what happens to me.
Taken from my world against my will,
but with love I get a home and thats a pretty good deal.

Sooo cute and sad! Poor little monkey! I love the poems perspective of being the monkey. It's good to step back and imagine how animals feel at our treatment of them. Well written!

I *knew* when I started reading this that it just had to be dedicated to Palazoo, because I've been to her website many times and am just constantly astounded as to her talent both with words and with the animals [and a little jealous also!] Her home is like a true safe haven, and I know that I wouldn't object to taking some time to recuperate there myself. There is no way taht she will turn down your requset to join her zoo, indeed, you would help all the other animals to heal also.

Ok, I have a confession. I'm not a fan of primates. While I find them to be fascinating, they're very aggressive in captivity and they throw poo. hehehehe. But if you want to be my monkey, I promise to love you :-) Thanks for entering my contest with this awesome poem. I'm honored!
