Love

Why does that fish always bite
Hook, line and sinker?
The lure looks so appealing
Dangling in front of it; the proverbial carrot,
Except it can get it.
If it was caught before and let go,
Cut off, unwanted, pitied.
It would again stare with longing
At the lure of eternal hungerlessness
And bite...

And so is this fire within, initially a flame,
And brutally doused, starved, suffocated,
By that icily enticing entity.
But still the flame refuses to pass
And from its grave it lives again,
Looking for that flame that will synergize
And, together, form that passionate furnace.
In the crucible the flame is refined,
Has forged a new kind; of togetherness.
Each a fuel for each.

And if all fails and the flame is split
Fight fire with fire
And see which wins.
