Subject Prompts

(1) choose a musical instrument and bring it alive. if someone had never seen or heard a piano, describe it so that they will feel as though they have. each instrument can only be done once off of a suggested list, such as; cello, violin, viola, flute, piccolo, oboe, piano, drumkit, timpani, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, double bass, trumpet, french horn, trombone.

(2) Joining Nationalities; write a poem about your country, and its heritage, NOT what it means to you to be of that heritage. For example, the history of France, the history of America, of Ireland, of England, of Singapore, of Sweden, etc.

(3) Write an acrostic of your own username on all poetry which describes how/why you came up with your username.

(4)Write a poem about a dog in the pound who is approaching his last days; show us how he feels, perhaps how he ended up in there - I want emotion here.

(5) Write a poem about a man/woman facing execution; their last final moments as they sit in the chair - what are their thoughts? do we know their crime? are there people watching them, eagery awaiting their final breath? what are their last thoughts?

(6) Pick a Dog Breed, and write a poem pertaining to either (a) societies view of that dog breed, or ( your own knowledge of the breed from the following list; American Pitbull Terrier, Doberman, Rottweiler, Border Collie, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Poodle, Jack Russel Terrier, Dogue De Bordeaux.

(7) "If You Were Gay" - Avenue Q. Taking this song as your inspiration, imagine a situation where your best friend / flatmate told you they were gay, but take the humourous approach to it as the song has done. Lyrics are along the lines of, "If you were gay, that'd be ok, I mean 'cause hey, I like you anyway, because you see, if it were me, i would feel free to say that I was gay (but im not gay)"

(8) Take your inspiration from one of the following West End musicals and write either (a) a song that you could see being used in the show itself if it were to be rewritten, or ( a poem in relation to the show. Choose from teh following shows; Man of La Mancha, Les Miserables, Avenue Q, Wicked, Lion King, Grease, Mamma Mia, Martin Guerre, Woman In White, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph.

(9) You're a trader working in financial banking, and the share prices are dropping; heading for bankruptcy. What's the atmosphere in the trading room? Is the noise level sky high? How are you feeling - heart racing, sweating, disbelief? Let us feel as though we're there with you.

(10) Take this quote [from Wicked the Musical] and use it as your inspiration; "Don't wish, don't start, wishing only wounds the heart".
