It didn't hurt
When the fish nibbled
Dangled fingers
When the water took the weight
Off sore scarred knees
And I floated through the decades
Back to childhood
To the womb
Golden treasure stones
alive in rippled light
Sound of snorkel loud
In sodden ears
I crept up on colorful crawfish
Pulled them apart for a fishy feast
Armor defeated
Small fish feasting
The big ones, with more to lose
Suspicious
Lounged by boulder and log
Jealous
Weight of the world lifted
Floated away
For a time
That passed
too soon

. . .LOL
Crawfish. Acadian Saturday nights, saw horse tables, newspapers, and beer, beer, beer. New potatoes and corn on the cob, onion, celery and bell pepper (southern trinity
)...and texjoy steak seasoning...
(the BEST DAMNED STEAK SEASONING IN THE WORLD. . .AMEN
)
strung up lights, and floating on innertubes, in the Hilldebrandt bayou, with the snakes and the gators...Zydeco music playing low, somewhere down the waterline..funny, now that I think back, I swear I felt an aliveness unlike anything I ever knew. You Cajuns love the outdoors, no doubt about that.
Say hello to a Louisiana crawfish for me today
and thank you for bringing back a memory I had forgotten.
Kind of like the smell of Ivory bathsoap...so many memories.
Bless you Ben, and thank you.
Much love,
