There's something blank
behind sky blued eyes,
heavy with the sleep
I know that is not mine.
I never wanted to be the apple
but I find it so hard to resist
even the blemish of a risk.
I'm nothing beyond less than anything,
which turns out to be just another contradiction
in my reality of empty.
And I sometimes
just hold my hands out
hoping to catch something
more than shades of teal-
waiting, watching,
(always)
for the seconds
to peter out.
