these are the days, presumably –
the sun is up (i didn’t sleep) and since
the sun is up it is daytime, and since
it is daytime and the radio is on
and i didn’t sleep, i didn’t sleep at all –
these are the days. i didn’t sleep
all night. i was thinking about the sun
and about how it’s dying at the speed
it breathes (i know it doesn’t breathe i’m
not stupid but i didn’t sleep all night
because i was waiting to make sure
the sun came up), living much much
faster than we (we are such slugs to
a thing like the sun we are horribly, horribly
moist) slow wet things could ever even
(contemplate you see i can’t at all) the news
that we are dying from the moment we are
born is old news but i had never thought
how fast it is happening to the sun why do we
feel so sorry for ourselves we could be the sun
(but then again it has lived is it five billion years? i forget
but i will be dead when it is still beautiful
and you were dead when you were still
beautiful and the sun has no daughters and no
mothers and no lovers and does not know –
but then I suppose that just proves
how much it does deserve our pity after all
because it never has burned like we do after all.
