Once upon a time in a forest far and near
Everyone lived in harmony with nothing to fear
The dragons and fairies, ogres and sprites
All united though different as day and night
The tree of life was their source of power and wisdom
He could be found right in the middle of the kingdom
The queen of the fairies woke one morning in dread
Visions of death she could not get out of her head
She called all the forest dwellers to a meeting to say
There is some unspeakable danger heading our way
I can not speak of which direction it will come
For it was not foretold but it will come with the sun
We must go to the tree of wisdom to ask his sage advice
For only he will be able to save us from this deadly plight
So off they did go to seek the aged ones wisdom
To insure that they continued to live in freedom
He woke in anger that they dared to disturb his slumber
In a voce that made them quiver he shouted like thunder
“Who Dare To Disturb My Well Deserved Sleep’
“If It Is Not of the Utmost Urgency You Will Surely Weep”
The queen put forth her most earnest heartfelt request
Told of the oncoming danger and the forest approaching death
He laughed as if amused and they all stared totally bemused
Why would he laugh at impending doom they were so confused
Your highness, your dreams should have held no fear for you
If you could have seen further this is what would have been true
Your vision of death is the oncoming of so called modern day man
They are more a danger to themselves than the grains of sand
They carry death and destruction everywhere in their wake
But no fool hearted actions will we have to undertake
They do not believe of our existence for they can not see
Continue as you always have and live in peace and harmony
A human child might enter into our world because they are pure
They also will not be believed, so our safety is still assured
Go back to your homes be not afraid but watch most carefully
Be aware, but do not interfere and all will be as it was meant to be
So forest dwellers gathered together to discuss their plans
Of living within close proximity to modern day man
The humans came and as foretold could not comprehend
That there were others existing in this world besides them
Life in the enchanted forest continued as it is and was before
One day humans will evolve enough to let their imaginations soar
If that day should ever come only then they will realize for sure
That its not only outer space they should take the time to explore

I love your rhythmic story telling.. Quite enchanting.. It spoke volumes to me, for you see, I am currently writing a book called "The End of Mystery and Magic" It is a shame man tends to destroy what it does not understand.
I think I have an early chapter on here somewhere... hmm ahh yes, here it is.

Your poem leaves us hope that the magic of Gaia will hold up to mans destructive encroachment.
Good Luck in the contest!

Thank you so much for the wonderful comments and I wholeheartedly agree that the artist is phenomenal. The picture shouted to me of fantasies and whimsical beings, dragons, and fairies and such. So it was the picture that fueled my imagination. Again I thank you and God Bless, Jo-Ann
