at eighteen
she knows enough spells
to freeze frame
a passing whimsy or
two
into coming true
her castles are
in clouds
rose madder and
sweetly insane
they splash her skin
with butterflies
the wings shimmer at night
simmer for a flight
her two cats are back
from late-afternoon stroll
wet paws and
healthy appetites
with secrets
stolen from under
angels' pillows
she listens
and she laughs
what do they know?
