Good Morning Birdie

What a great way to start a new day --
A great way for the day to begin.
While checking email and searching for shoes
I heard a tap-tapping and then --

I looked through the glass of the chairside door
Expecting a kitten wants in.
But to my surprise, and delighting my eyes,
Was a gold finch tiny and thin.

She was tapping and tapping, a tappy-tap-tap.
It made me so happy, so happy-hap-hap!
Hello little birdie. What's up with your day?
She squeaked one time then flew up and away.

So I repeat my first line
(Well what else can I say?)
This has been a great way
To start a new day.

Little things sometimes make all the difference. It's surprising the effect they can have. This poem celebrates those things, that gold finch, it's a symbol of that simple joy...gold being a great color...suggesting, again, the importance.

"So I repeat my first line"

I like that, just a simple line but it not only reiterates the line, but also the underlying meaning...its importance.

Glad you posted something...glad I was nosy and checked.

Hi Yem, and thanks for your thoughts. "Simple Joy" is my quest. The little bird's was such a surprise, and I did indeed manage to construct meaning from it. I think birds are magical.
