I Am Me

I am who I am;
none can brand me
with a single name
that defines me.

It's who I am,
it's my personality
that makes me,
gives me my identity.

I cannot be defined
by name, though I
have many....

Who I can be
and who I will be
will never be the same
by any other name:

I am me.

I'm a friend,
I'm a lover,
I'm an angel
undercover -
both a sinner
and a saint;

I am me, and
I am not ashamed.

I am beautiful,
I am plain;
I'm an empath who
cannot take the pain.

I am loud,
sometimes bitter,
but one thing's sure -
I'm no quitter.

I'll be strong,
I'll be silent;
but when it comes to
choosing voicing out
against injustice over silence,
I'll take responsibility
for my actions,
for they are part of me -

All the pain,
all the gladness,
all the joy and
all the sadness
and the choices
that we make
are part of who
we are...

I see no skin color,
I judge no others
for I know not
their life's history
their whole story
of how and why they
are the way they are.

I know only that
I am me.
Call me what you will,
it doesn't change me;
it doesn't change anything.

Took a little liberty with some Alanis Morrisette lyrics.

    We are all unique and that's what's important in my opinion. The fact that we are not like any other human being makes us important and special and nobody can tell us otherwise. I believe in justice and love, not many do these days... It makes me special. Love the background

    You know, I really appreciate your honesty.
    It's great to see that you value yourself, and don't choose to let others make you their slave. Until recently, I was guilty of doing a lot of things. Perhaps, judging and disliking those that were just like me.
    There are 2 things that are very hard to accomplish. a. knowing yourself
    but harder than that.
    b. Accepting your mistakes, letting go, and sighing and saying "Uhh, I was wrong."
    This poem really relates to me, because this is the person I am, and always had the potential of being. I really never took time to utilize my weaknesses, to turn them in to my strengths.
    I spent way too much time, believing that I have no point or purpose. Although that may be true, I'm here, so I'm going to enjoy it the best I can, and while it lasts. Maybe more people care about me than I care to see.
    Sorry, now I'm just rambling. Good poem, it got me to think.

    Sweet poem with a smooth flow. Enjoyable read..

    I like you too.. besides the fact that your comment on "Drobe" got me listening to "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to love" for the last week- which I'm grateful for lol.

    This is a wonderful little poem. I like it very much. I do like the background a lot too however, it is a little difficult to read your poem with it.

      I love the BG, but no color is really compatible with it; I could try bolding the text....
