I watch him there,
My Son.
Giggling about some joke-
that he shared with friends.
So hard to believe,
a few short years before,
a baby,
held lovingly in my arms.
Now look at you,
bright eyes,
big smile,
Only a few short years,
Until your a man.
No longer the caretaker
The one to hold onto
The one who runs
in the middle of the night
when he's had a bad dream.
Yet when I am old,
Everything will be reversed,
He will me my caretaker,
Take up the job,
That I once held for him.
Life is so wondrous,
So beautiful
But for now,
I watch My Son
Playing, Laughing with friends,
Enjoying my years with him,
For as long as I can.
For now-
I watch.
Author notes
This is for JadedSnapDragon, I loved the picture of her son, and then I thought about my own sons, and the fears I have of them growing up. Enjoy them while they are little.... They grow so fast!

Excellent write. I have four daughters 28-22, It seems they were just in grade school and I blinked a few times and now I have eight grands.
