How is it

How is it
that you can look so
to my coming for 9 long months
and yet,
when I am here
you can't take the time out
of your busy
schedule to so much as
play catch with me.

To read me a bedtime story.
To scare away the monsters
to even hold me
when I am sad.

How is it
that you can give me
all the money in your pockets
but you can't
spend ten minutes
just talking with me.

Finding out
how my day went at school.
Learn who my teachers are,
who that pretty girl is
that I have a crush on.

How is it
that you can spend
all your waking hours
behind that desk
assurring yourself that
you've done all you can
to see me safe.

That you've given me a home,
proper clothes, and a good education.

And yet,
all I really need
is you.

    Sad but true....

very nicely penned touching on an oh so common subject...it's the love and time we give to a child that shapes it into the person it will turn out to be...reminds of the song "Teach your children well" CSNY...wish you best of luck in the contest

    Excellent questions here

Material things have taken the love out of homes and replaced them with tears and loneliness . Sad it is for love cost not a dime just a little of your time could m,ake their whole day and yours one of joy

Excellent! This really brought many thinkgs home and you set the scene by sayiong that people wait longingly for 9 months for a child and then many seem to lose interest!
Spot on here with your thoughts.
    All the best with this

Wow, this is very deep and thought provoking.
It's a terrible feeling to know that your parents
can't be there for you when you really need them
the most. That's really frightening and can lead
to so many problems in the long run. This poem of
yours is something that I think many people all
over the world can relate to. Very moving and sad
but, well written. I wish you all the best in this
contest my friend! Take care and thanks for sharing
    this one here!
