When sadness comes a calling
Knocking at my door
I do not hear the warning
So I do not know the score
If it's there for reasons other than just being
Should I take more notice instead of just agreeing
Questioning the way I feel
Looking, learning, growing
Is it tangible or real
Is it fast or is it slowing
Can it be touched, is it here now
Will it go, will it get bigger
Where is its root, where is its bough
Will it sympathise or snigger
Winding through the ins and outs
Working out its pattern
Making sure without a doubt
That all its strength I flatten
When I've worked the problem through
When all avenues are covered
I'll sing my praises, take my cue
And make sure that it's smothered

Great rhymes here. They really help this piece. The emotion is soft, and not overblown. Excellent write and good luck in my contest.

Lately I've felt sadness for no apparant reason and have struggled through that insane reasoning trying to find its roots.
I really relate to this and liked the positive end. thank you for entering -
Sadness exists, so deal with it we must. This poem takes the view that we should confront the sadness rather than try to avoid it or ignore it.
“If it's there for reasons other than just being
Should I take more notice instead of just agreeing”
While most of the stanzas are quatrains, the second is a couplet. For me these two lines identify the point from which the author suggests we develop our strategies to face and overcome the sadness that is there.
