"Smile and the world smiles with you
Cry and you cry alone."
For all the world is occupied
Smiling with those that they know
That they've no time to cry with you
They leave you to dwell in woe
And crying in your own lonesome
Builds a wall between you and fun
The self-pity becomes routine
LIke there's no light left in the sun
For though man was born with a caring heart
It's too much work to care anymore
And in choosing that they don't care
They choose to let others' hearts be sore
In this age in which we live
Regular people just don't care
So when you need someone to care
And a shoulder for your tears
That is when you are most alone
And most frightening, your fears
But lo and behold, I am here
Your friend, always at your side
I will care for you, dry your tears
When with me, forget your pride
For as people pas in and out of your life
I will stand by your side through it all
Open up to me, and forget all your pain
Whilst I am here, you'll never fall
Never feel a need to fake a smile
To cover the hurt inside
For bearing that burden takes its toll
And these symptoms do not hide
But caring for you as I do
I'll console you as you moan
So smile and know you have a friend
And need never cry alone
