The Chameleon

Hello there and what are you?
So huge, and such a funny color,
a color that doesn’t change

You won’t hurt me will you
mistress giant,
You seem so kind and gentle.

Whoa what are you doing?
Your touch is very gentle
for one that is so large.

Ooo that tickles,
and yet it feels so kind
you want me to just sit here

upon this strong and  peaceful
place so high above my world
amid these fragrant heavens.

Sweet friend I have enjoyed our time
yet I now must go
my friends they call me home

they don’t know you as I do
and for my safety they do fear
will I see you tomorrow?

If not, I understand.
I will just wait patiently
until we meet again.

Author notes

POM Contest

As a child i used to catch Chameleons. I never hurt them, but if you stroked them just right you could calm them and they would fall asleep. I would place them on my shoulder they made beautiful living pins. then I would let them go.

This is my idea of their thoughts as they were faced with a giant they did not know.

What a wonderful tale you have told here. I agree would make delighful childrens poetry. This could also be written as quite a good story rather than poem, the idea is one that I think would enchant small children...something to think about maybe A most enjoyable read.
Scores will be sent to your host at end of judging.
    Good luck

    Hi Valerie!

This is a delightful piece with a childlike essence. I think this would fit in the genre of Children's poetry. I enjoyed your author's note as well.

I noticed there is some punctuation missing, and a couple of slightly awkward phrases, such as "my friends they call me home" - I'd remove the word "they", and "and for my safety they do fear" - I'd change to "They fear for my safety."

I'll post my scores at the end of the contest
