In the world of art, you cannot tell
The liars from the cheaters
The men in suits, and leather boots
The takers and receivers
When it comes to cash, they work real fast
to smile and admire your taste
"This work will rocket", will hit you in the pocket
Welcome to the race
The confusion comes when beauty is presented
As possessions, at a price
The values placed, the margins raised
Mean nothing in this life
For man needs none of this, its value meaningless
If the intention is to fool
Others who look for truth and meaning
That can't be taught in school
If you're the supplier, you have the desire
To show and to entertain
A reputation for honest effort
Is your one true aim
Beauty and truth through seeing and believing
In the land, the sea and sky
Quiety brushing aside the sacrifice
having another slice of humble pie
So follow your heart, develop your art
to deny it would be a sin
Art can inspire, it can take you higher
But beauty is within

This was so beautiful. It had such strength and a certain passion, and yet it had such softness as well. You truly bring the reader into this write.. Thank you very much for sharing..

this is such a fabulous write, and very true, beauty is indeed within. This is very cleverly written, great rhythm, I may show my kids your page, and this poem theyre all creative as opposed to accademic, and i always say to them if the world were full of mathemeticians and scientists it would be dull. Its the artists musicians and writers who make our world beautiful. This poem reflects all I try to teach them
Thankyou

Thanks !!
Thanks for your kind comments, I hope it didn't sound too bitter at the beginning.
You are blessed to have creative children, wow what a life you all have ahead of you with them around !!
It is so easy to get sucked into the material aspects of modern life and to ignore all the beauty.
So more Love and Beauty and less stuff is my motto.
God, I really am a hippy !!!

Thank you for your comment Rose Angel.
Pleasing everyone is impossible though and in many ways its best not to try.
It's difficult to go your own way on everything and sometimes it's great to 'give em what they want'.

Right on!
Oh how true you are here, you have penned pure widsom and spot on as well.
Art is about appreciating the beauty seen through the artists eyes, and as per his appreciation of what he sees and paints, and each painting has its own essence and personality, its own presence and it is not a mere possession it is not about money its about connecting with a like mind.
Too often the elitism and capitalism is the spoil of all, and in art its a disease that spreads. Names sell and pockets tell, art is lost in all of that, and what turns into a 'valuable' painting is just a sought after commodity for the sake of ownership and not true appreication of the painting and essence let alone the poor artist.
You pen well in stating this, and a lesson well taught to a world of greed that loses any depth and makes for a shallow plastic society.
Love your poem its fantastic says so much and paints with words a sad fact of life where the capitalists are versus art and art appreciation. Bravo, well done love it and great perfect rhyme and flow too! Write on your are the biz Tom! Poet Laureate for sure here!
Poetic Hugs,
Kaz.

Thanks Kaz, you are right about capitalism !!
The bull*bunny* is piled so high you need a pair of angels wings to stay above it !!
We all have to make a living but lets do it cleanly and honestly, without lies, deception and illusion.
That one was just for fun, not too heavy, but more heavyness coming up, oh yea !!!
Love Tom xx

Aww wow, this is really deep the last stanza points out a message I'm sure everyone will understand. Art is a fine thing, it's a beautiful thing too.

Thanks Karlie, just my little dig at the establishment and the corrupting influence of men and money.
You are totally right, and art means so many different things to different people, amazing really cos its just bits of wood, paint and cloth.

I always feel art in whichever form it comes in is a very personal thing to the creator Tom. Why oh why does money have to remove the beauty.. Excellent write...mal

I agree, and I think that it's a great skill if you can communicate that personal thing to the viewer, particularly if you make art for a living.
Money corrupts and there are always those people who exploit the talented, parasites disguised as helpers.
Thanks Mal

BEAUTIFULLY EXPRESSED!!!!!
I myself love to see art of any kind which comes from ones heart and soul. For me the more simple in style the more meaningful. To me simplicity is emotion, feelings shown true can never be wrong.

Thanks for your comments.
Had some fun with this one and the rhymes, hope the start doesn't sound too bitter, written more in fun than in anger.
