Through a Lens Darkly

The eye of the camera

sees the injustice of man,

the trickery of shadows

glaring from within,

the horror of the twisted

mind of inhumane man;

yet hiding what no lens

will ever capture within

the gut of the homeless

living in their hell,

what only the victims

can truthfully tell,

what only their own eyes

know oh-so well...

Author notes

"The poet can't change anything, but the poet can demonstrate the power of the solitary conscience." ~Stanley Kunitz

Dedicated to Glenn H. Austin and his heart-and-soul-felt mission of bringing the plight of the homeless into the conscious awareness of our unjust and inhumane society. I would be personally honored if you would take a moment to view his work, as he is truly making a real diffference in the world, one photo at a time:  http://www.inside-voices.com  Thank you!

    "what only their own eyes

know oh-so well..." This indicates the true sence of what the public chooses not to see. Where are the cameras? Nicely done!---Mark

I think I know the artist you're speaking about. I've seen some of the work, it's heartbreaking and yet, after you look at it a while, there's a peace. Really nice effect. Your poem is lovely, true, ans sweepingly emotional. I loved it Cyn.
    Much love,
    jin

I long to see more individuals who are not content with being silent witnesses. Speak out against injustice at every turn. Our world will be a paradice once more if man will rediscover his lost humanity.
