I was

I was

I wonder when I will be forgotten
By the present and the past,
Sand dusted arid thoughts
Empty of meaning,
And thirsting for a recollection
Just a fragmentary moment.

Trees fly by in quick succession,
Dried leaves scraping across,
Parched grass waiting for the snow.
Cracked anchorless ships
Blown across emptiness
Caught in shadowed eddies
Waiting for decomposition.

Do you ever wonder….
About who you were
And wish that you could forget?

I no longer want the shroud
That cloaks me in the dark
Like a wintery heavy cloud
Bringing the cold of mourning
Into my hollow heart
Banging the walls of emptiness
And echoing for no one to hear.

Single piano notes hang
Clattering in a silence
Awaiting an ear to resonate
And retell the story
Of fingertips brushing ivory
Leaving oily false memoirs

I often wonder
About who I am
And I wish that I could forget.

    Deep

    Like a wintery heavy cloud
    Bringing the cold of mourning
    Into my hollow heart
    Banging the walls of emptiness
And echoing for no one to hear.
